Recent Euro 2012 Fixtures Stories

More Stories
There are 24 Euro 2012 fixtures already known, with the draw for the group stage of the tournament having been made in December 2011.

Euro 2012 starts on Friday 8 June when Poland face Greece in Warsaw, with the matches then coming thick and fast. The final Group D encounters between England v Ukraine and Sweden v France bring the group stage to a timely conclusion.

Before the Poland v Greece match, we will have the Euro 2012 opening ceremony which will include the tournament mascots and a colourful display hosted by co-nations Poland and Ukraine.

Russia and Czech Republic will play later that evening, with two games then being played every day for the next 12 days. Spain start their title defence on Sunday 10 June when they play Italy in what promises to be an intriguing tie. Vicente Del Bosque’s team slipped up in their opening match at the 2010 World Cup when losing to Switzerland, with the Italians likely to keep things tight against their opponents.

The Netherlands reached the final of the World Cup and they have been handed a favourable opening match against Denmark, a team that they narrowly beat in the opening game two years ago.

The other Group B opening game is Germany against Portugal, which is probably the highlight match of the first round of fixtures. The Germans are second favourites to win Euro 2012 and will face a Portuguese side who needed a play-off to qualify for the finals.

England will be missing Wayne Rooney for their opening match of Euro 2012 after the Manchester United striker was sent off in the final qualifying game against Montenegro. Rooney will watch from the bench as the Three Lions face France on Monday 11 June, with the two favourites to win Group D looking to make a flying start.

The second round of matches will see Netherlands face Germany in what is the highlight game of the group stage. The two teams made the final and semi-final of the 2010 World Cup respectively only to be foiled by Spain and they are among the favourites to win in Poland and Ukraine.
